From an anthropological perspective food, and therefor the act of cooking, is more than a necessity, it is the symbol of our humanity, what marks us off from the rest of nature. And because eating is almost always a group event, food becomes a focus of symbolic activity about sociality and our place in our society.

A companies lunch should go beyond the act of just eating. It’s about connecting with your colleagues. Over topics in and beyond the scope of Lifely. It’s about disconnecting from work, connecting to your peers, and about re-fuelling mentally and physically. How do we go about this?

🐳  Talk with your mouth full.

Every Lifely team member must hold a yearly 10-15 minute presentation about something small yet very significant in their life. It can be a hobby, an experience, something they overcome, a guide to a country they visited or something work related they are passionate about.

Lunch talks should be streamed to the entire company.

👋  Introduction bytes.

New employees briefly introduce themselves to the team during lunch. We save everyone’s presentation so that employees who join the team can go back in time and see who their colleagues are during their onboarding phase.

TBD: Create a simple format that everyone can follow in google docs.

🔥  Disaster Chef.

Every other week we do one cooking challenge where two or three members of the Lifely team take 20 minutes out of their day to cook for the team. The goal is to have the lunch ready within the designated time. The challenge starts at 11:50 and dinner should be served at 12:10. The studio manager provides a surprise recipe (vegan/vegetarian) and provides the necessary ingredients for the challenge.

🕹️  Food smash.

Every last Monday of the month (if there are no conflicts with clients’ meetings/events) we do a Super Smash lunch tourney. We make sure there is couch friendly lunch prepared or delivered. We do the best of one double-elimination bracket. The winner of the last event should play with a Random character select in the upcoming event.

🫑  Good dining.

During regular work days, Lifely provides a healthy, mostly locally sourced, vegetarian lunch for everyone in the Lifely studio. Products are mostly sourced through the Buurtboer and Crisp.

We’ve chosen to be a vegetarian first company. Mainly due to environmental reasons. Yet we also see it as an opportunity to show our team and clients how amazing vegetarian food can be. We, therefore, try to source the best vegetarian or vegan products out there. More on lunch here: ‣

♻️  Scavenger Friday.

Every Friday we empty the fridge of all product perishable products. The goal is to have close to zero food waste. So even if the shelf life is beyond the weekend, let’s try to empty the fridge every Friday as much as possible.
